Xunantunich Mayan Ruins
Xunantunich is located 80 miles west of Belize City on the Guatemalan border. While visiting, soldiers patrolled the area looking for Guatemalans illegally crossing the border. These Mayan Ruins consisted of a 130 feet tall pyramid with many detailed stone carvings. Xunantunich means "Stone Woman" or "Maiden of the Rock" after a white clothing, red-eyed ghost woman was said to climb the steps of a temple and later vanished into the rock walls. This ancient civilization was ruled by a king.
Belize City
Belize is an English speaking country with Creole (or Kriol) , Mayan, Mestizo, Garafuna and Mennonite influence. It is not uncommon to hear Spanish and Creole. It was once declared to be a British Crown Colony and therefore has a big British influence in government and how it is set up.

Host Family Outside the City
During my visit to Belize, I was able to stay with a local family that supported the Community Baboon Sanctuary. After several discussions with the supporters of the Baboon Sanctuary, you could see how committed they were to the cause of conservation and living in harmony with nature. I was greeted with open arms and great hospitality.
